silhouettes: ?$%#

Nobody thinks about silhouettes anymore. In fact, I don't even
know if I spelled that word right, since I never think about them.

The invention of the lightbulb marked the death of the silhouette.
With bulbs everywhere, shadows lost popularity. And if that wasn't
enough, outdoor lighting made it impossible to see through curtains
    into people's houses.

Also, curtains became thicker. The industrial revolution made
thicker textiles available to the masses because they could now be
made for a fraction of the cost.
